The BMW SA Open will once again be hosted by the City of Ekurhuleni with the 2018 event set to take place at Glendower Golf Club from the 11 – 14 January 2018

With it officially being the largest golfing event in South Africa and the second oldest golf championship in the world, we are certain it will be a great success for all involved.

City of Ekurhuleni is one of eight metropolitan municipalities in the country and one of three in Gauteng province. This city has a population of 3.3 million and a growth and development strategy up to 2055,
a 10-point economic plan attached to key performance targets as well as a planned budget to enable it to reach its strategic goals. Ekurhuleni is a Tsonga word that means ‘place of peace’ and it has its administrative capital in Germiston.

The Els for Autism Foundation was established in 2009 by Ernie and Liezl Els to focus on the issue of autism. This was motivated by their son Ben’s diagnosis several years before. In 2011, the Ernie Els Centre for Autism, was established in South Africa.

Every child with autism can learn and deserves access to effective education. Furthermore, every parent/caregiver plays an important role in helping their child reach his or her fullest potential. Thus at the Ernie Els Centre, we aim to empower families of children on the autism spectrum, by offering comprehensive coaching on how to use best practices. At the centre, we offer participants with free access to an online treatment tool called Rethink First.

The centre facilitators use this resource in order to guide the caregiver using these best-practice based strategies on how to teach their child. Given that the centres reach is Nationwide, EEC provides support in numerous ways, including in-centre sessions (in Braamfontein & Cape Town), as well as telephonic and Skype guidance. This is done on average every 2 to 4 weeks, with the intention of participants practicing and incorporating these skills into their daily life. The Ernie Els Collection is here and we’re well into our 4th season of quality golf apparel. Luxury golf garments characterizing the style of the ‘Big Easy’ are now available in a few selected regions, but we are just getting started and looking to grow.

The Ernie Els collection was launched in his home country, South Africa, and went into stores in January 2013. Every store was immediately impressed and bought in, and the product sell-through has proven to be some of the best we have seen in any brand this year. There are now 50 stores in South Africa carrying the Ernie Els Collection and in particular men’s polo shirts.

ABOUT THE RANGE

The range is built around attractive colour pallets, a more conservative, distinguished look and a luxurious feel with a slight sheen to the polo shirt fabric.

The Els Club at Copperleaf in Johannesburg and Oubaai in George were some of the first outlets to stock the product, followed closely by The Els Club Dubai and Anahita in Mauritius. In time we hope to have every golf course that Ernie has designed around the world featuring an Ernie Els corner showcasing his stable of brands.

As part of the global roll-out plan, Ernie has expressed specific interest in featuring the product lines at PGA Tour and USGA events as well as to his other corporate partners. We also intend to add distributors in several countries around the world as the next year goes on.

As an exceptionally proud South African, it was important for Ernie Els to have a South African-made collection that characterized his personal taste in quality and style. In a beautiful and diverse African country, with many challenges and opportunities alike, it has always been important for Ernie to be creating opportunity and giving back to the community that he grew up in and loves so fondly. These garments are currently all manufactured in South Africa, but plans are afoot to develop a global footprint over the next few years.

The Ernie Els Foundation was founded in 1999 with the purpose of identifying and assisting young talented golfers, predominantly from families of limited resources and to deliver to them educational assistance and playing opportunities in order to produce successful young leaders and develop their playing ability to its full potential.

The Ernie Els Foundation joined forces with the world-renowned Fancourt Hotel and Golf Estate in 2006 to establish the Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation (EE&FF).

To meet its objectives and fulfill its mission statement, the EE&FF focuses on three main areas, being golf coaching, education and life skills.

The Foundation changed its focus from junior to amateur golfers in 2015, now offering membership predominantly to talented golfers who have finished high school. The focus is on supporting those members who the EE&FF believes could be successful as professional golfers while, at the same time, encouraging its members to further their studies.

The Foundation’s programme has proven to be a successful one and it is proud that many of its past members are now forging successful careers on professional tours around the world, as well as having several graduates of universities, colleges and the PGA of South Africa.

The EE&FF, which has 19 members at present, is very proud of the fact that Louis Oosthuizen and Branden Grace are former members of the Foundation.
