Ernie Els embarks on his fourth year as Player-Host of the BMW SA Open, proudly hosted by the City of Ekurhuleni.
As South Africa’s most successful golfer over the past three decades, Els has used his considerable influence and passion for the BMW SA Open, proudly hosted by the City of Ekurhuleni, to grow its international standing, and its influence within South African golf.
The respect he has amongst some of the biggest names in world golf has seen him reignite their interest in the BMW South African Open, proudly hosted by the City of Ekurhuleni.
In 2016, Els was able to secure the participation of Rory McIlroy in the tournament, making for one of the most memorable South African Opens in history.
At the same time, his association with the tournament has provided a valuable platform for Els’s ongoing work creating awareness and support for autism through the Els for Autism initiative.

As a five-time winner of the South African Open, Els’s own presence in the field is enough of an incentive to attract the attention of the world’s leading professionals.
